Tips for improving your pledge totals
Collecting pledges have proven to be a very successful method to raising money.
Here are some tips from our top fundraisers across Canada to help improve your
pledges totals. Implement some of these techniques in your fundraising efforts and
you might be pleasantly surprised at the results!

Be optimistic:
Having a positive attitude will help you achieve great things!
Excitement is highly contagious.
 
Set a goal:
This makes your personal goal more concrete and will help motivate your fundraising.
 
Be committed:
Pledge yourself...it demonstrates your personal commitment to the cause. When your friends, colleagues and family members see your name and a contribution, they will be more willing to support your efforts.
 
Start high and others will follow:
People will tend to give what they see other people gave, so try to get a large donation to put first on your pledge form.
 
Consider using 2 different pledge forms:
Use one pledge form for your ‘high roller’ donations and another for moderate donation amounts. That way potentially large donors won’t reduce their donation because they see a lot of low amounts and moderate donors won’t be intimidated by the larger donations.
 
Ask for donations on payday:
Timing is everything. People tend to give more when they aren’t feeling ‘fiscally tight’ themselves. Asking for a donation on payday will likely increase their pledged amounts.
 
Never leave home without your pledge sheets:
Call us if you need more.
 
Ask for a specific amount:
Tell everyone what your average pledge has been and then ask them to beat it! Ask all your supporters from previous years to increase their pledge this
 
Ask for donations on payday:

Make a list of places where you spend money:
Their donation is tax-deductible. Don’t forget doctors, dry cleaners, dentists, gas stations and restaurants. You’ve given them your money – now it’s their turn.
 
Ask vendors at your business:
Coffee, paper, couriers, technician…anyone who comes in the door!
 
Learn as much as you can about the MS society and MS:
Feeling passionate about the reason your are raising money and feeling committed to the people you are helping will make a difference in your fundraising results. The MS Society is a worthwhile, important charity and you should feel proud ~ as you are making a difference in the lives of those living with MS.
